Importance
Each of the nine nights is dedicated to a different form of Durga. The festival culminates on Vijayadashami (Dussehra), commemorating both Durga's victory over Mahishasura and Lord Rama's victory over Ravana.
Pooja Vidhi
Kalash Sthapana
A sacred kalash is installed and an Akhand Jyoti (unbroken lamp) is lit for nine days.
Navadurga Puja
Each night, one of the nine forms of Durga is invoked and worshipped.
Kanya Puja
On Ashtami or Navami, young girls are honoured as living forms of the Goddess.
Durga Visarjan
The festival concludes with Vijayadashami puja and immersion rituals.
